about
Last July I moved to Mexico City - Tenochtitlán - the land of my ancestors and I quickly fell in love not only with the city but with the music scene here. I didn’t have a band right away but I was eager to jump in so I started working on Spanish language versions of two songs from my last album on In The Red Records, Sister Dynamite. These two new recordings feature my original L.A. band, made up of David Jones, Candace Hansen, Rikki Watson, and Sharif Dumani with brand new backing vocals by Sara Norman and Violeta Hinojosa, respectively, the guitarist and bassist of the Mexico City hardcore punk band, Soga.
Sara and and Violeta immediately made me feel like punk family when I relocated to Mexico City in 2021, so it’s only fitting that they became my “Coro de Brujas” (Choir of Witches) for these songs.
Migajitas means Breadcrumbs and I was pleasantly surprised to learn that this feminist take on the Hansel and Gretel fairytale translated successfully with the storybook references intact.
Aviéntate Ya is about having the courage to take risks. As a 63 year old woman, I know that society expects me to act a certain way, and releasing new punk music at my age doesn’t fit that expectation but the reward of being true to myself is worth the risk.

lyrics
Ahh que riesgo emocionante
Tiene efecto intoxicante
Atrévete, andale
Que pa’ luego es tarde
Ve sin temor, ten valor
No seas cobarde
Atrévete, andale
Que pa’ luego es tarde
Ve sin temor, ten valor
No seas cobarde
Te vas con cautela
y me desesperas
Enfréntate al riesgo
No hay otra manera
Aviéntate ya!
Aviéntate ya!
Aviéntate ya!
Es un poco intimidante
Molestoso, irritante
Atrévete, andale
Que pa’ luego es tarde
Ve sin temor, ten valor
No seas cobarde
Atrévete, andale
Que pa’ luego es tarde
Ve sin temor, ten valor
No seas cobarde
Lo desconocido
es como el océano
Deja el salvavidas
tírate un clavado!
Aviéntate ya!
Aviéntate ya!
Aviéntate ya!
No es necesario,
dar tanta vuelta
Por mientras piensas,
se cierra la puerta
Atrévete, andale
Que pa’ luego es tarde
Ve sin temor, ten valor
No seas cobarde
Atrévete, andale
Que pa’ luego es tarde
Ve sin temor, ten valor
No seas cobarde
No se pueda a medias,
Aunque sea con miedo
Hay que entrarle entero,
Hay que entrarle entero!
Aviéntate ya!
Aviéntate ya!
Aviéntate ya!
